Sac Spiders - Family: Clubionidae
The Family: Clubionidae contains at present 666 species in 18 genera. Only eight species may be found in the Northern Rivers. Three of these are of uncertain status and various sightings of 'Green Sac Spiders' from the Genus: Matidia have not been identified to species level although the few images available on iNat appear to be of one and the same species. Note: the NMBE-World Spider Catalog does not list any species of the Genus: Matidia to occur in Australia at all.
Clubiona trivialis and Clubiona pallidula, or European Sac Spider, appear to be the most widespread; ranging from Western Europe through Russia and Siberia to Central Asia. The latter has also been introduced into Canada and the U.S.A. About a quarter of the Family: Clubionidae can be found in China where recent research has identified a large number of new species.
Some species of the Genus: Clubiona are considered 'threatened'. Clubiona mahensis from the Seychelles Islands is endangered as is Clubiona nigromaculosa from the island of Reunion. Those species that occur in the Northern Rivers are said to be 'of no concern' even though records of most are scant.
