Leaf Beetles and Allies - Superfamily: Chrysomeloidea
|
|
Consisting of three families the superfamily of the Chrysomeloidea is closely related to the superfamily of the Long-horned Beetles and their allies, the Cerambycoidea. Whereas they are here treated as two separate superfamilies, many authorities in the field would still rather see them grouped together. As a superfamily the Chrysomeloidea are a cosmopolitan group that has representatives spread over most of the planet. Of its' three constituent families however, only one, the Chrysomelidae, can be found in Australia. This superfamily contains species that are of profound importance to agriculture as they feed on common cropping plants.
