Haplotaxids - Order: Haplotaxida
The Order: Haplotaxida, as well as the other ten Orders in the Subclass: Oligochaeta was proposed in 2021 in a paper by R.M Schmelz et al. This in response to other authors' commentary about what had always been a messy state of affairs in the classification of Olichaete worms. This neat and new arrangement has been accepted by iNaturalist - and it is used here - but most of the many other taxonomic databases available on-line do not (as yet?) reflect it.

Despite the debate about taxonomic relationships seemingly settling somewhat, there remains only scant knowledge about the individual species within the two families in this order. So far, only seven species from four genera in the Family: Haplotaxidae have been recorded in Australia. Which, if any, of these occur in the Northern Rivers is not certain but, one of the two species in the Genus: Haplotaxis appears to be the most likely.
